Wow!
It is April, and we've been slacking a little bit on our Lizard Classroom Blog! Not to worry - it seems to happen that way as the school year starts to wind down, but we are doing plenty of things around here. Below, you'll find a quick update for each of the classes and what is going on - check back soon for updates from kids!
World History
Students just started a large "historian" project where they will be studying the Haitian Revolution. Throughout the project, they will be reading and annotating a multitude of primary and secondary sources, writing an introduction (abstract) to the conflict itself, completing a comprehensive timeline, drafting a hand-drawn map, and writing an essay utilizing evidence from the sources that they started with at the beginning of the quarter. The students in this class are incredibly bright and have enjoyed getting to work on this big project so I am very excited to see where they go when given the opportunity.
Cold War
In this class, we have continued to march forward through time. Students are chewing through the Gaddis book and making good progress. Currently we are studying JFK and watching "The Fog of War' - a documentary with interviews with JFK's defense secretary, Robert McNamara. As the school year comes to a close we will continue to dive into conflicts and students will gain a better perspective of the Cold War as a whole.
US History
Students are working through time and we are currently studying the "acts.' This week we've been working on the Stamp Act with a quick side trip about prostitution in the colonies. This class is very interested in all aspects of society and asked some great questions last week about prostitution in the American Colonies. In order to finish exploring their questions, today we read an article from Colonial Williamsburg to help students gain a better understanding. This group is full of good historical thinkers and it is fun to get "off track" with them as their interests provoke questions throughout class.
Thanks for following along and check back soon for more!
